How I used ChatGPT to help me plan Christmas

I’m a little too ChatGPT obsessed, if I’m honest. It’s just so fun to talk to a super smart robot, right?

But for my ADHD brain, this tool is amazing. I can feed it a prompt and boom, suddenly some of my most major executive functioning hiccups (task analysis, prioritizing, estimating time) are HANDLED.

So, if you listened to this episode, you probably know that I used ChatGPT to help me plan out gift-buying. Here’s what I said to the robot:

Hi there! You’re one of Santa’s helpers and you’re going to help me get ready to celebrate Christmas with our family, friends, and community. Here’s what I need you to do: (1) help me to come up with a list of people that I would like to buy gifts for (ex., family at home, family out of the home, extended family, best friends, friends, friends I see in certain situations, people we pay, etc.) (2) then you will help me to plan how much money to allocate per present for each group. (3) You will help me to come up with personalized gift ideas (decreasing in personalization as the relationship becomes less intimate). (4) You will help me to plan how and when to acquire gifts starting today, TODAY’S DATE, and making sure I am ready the week prior to Christmas Eve (including wrapping the presents). Please talk to me like a best friend who is very excited about the holiday season and is sentimental about the small details that make the holidays even nicer.

After a little back-and-forth. I had a game plan. Here’s what it looks like.

Seems so do-able, right?

Here’s how I conceptualized present-giving as well. I sorted people into varying degrees of relationship.
